hop plant

    i would like a hop plant don't mater which one as i wont be using it to make beer just to clime up a fence behind a water fall

    and for the birds to nest in

    I wish you luck, when you come to making your beer, you will need about 4 times the amount of hops needed if you make from own grown hops. Cheers, Tony.

    I don't think the birds will nest in it as it dies back every year and there won't be much there to build in until about July - and the birds will have finished building long before that.

    Also it will need canes to twirl up otherwise it won't climb the fence.

    You are welcome to have some of my golden hop as I'm probably digging some out.

      I've just been poking around the roots of the wild hops in the garden and they're sprouting nicely underground, so a good time to propagate.

      Are you planting them where you'll brush against them because the rough (spiney/spikey?) stems can cause a nasty rash?

      I train a few stems along some string (nice old traditional stuff in balls, like you use with brown paper on parcels) and when they're covered in blooms, cut them off to bring inside and decorate the house.

      they will be planted be hind my water fall out of the way just to cover the fence over
      i have already made a wire fram for one to grow over :dbgrtmb:
