Just had to build a new wall and as part of the construction built in front of it a permanent raised bed. Its 16” deep, 4’ wide and 30’ long, filled with a good mix of sharp sand, well rotted compost and sieved soil.
At back edge of the bed is a vertical wall ... so support wires /mesh is an option for anything that is creeper like.
The bed is wind protected from S, W & E but not fully protected from N
The wall is effectively N facing so not much point in thinking of vines ... they will go elsewhere ... the bed is on E-W axis so it does get sun all day.
Geographically I am South West .. in S.Wales on the coast. (51 deg 30’ if you want accuracy)

What I thought was to make this bed the ‘permanent’ crops .... one definite is asparagus, what other edible crops ... like to go into non-disturbed places ..
    Welcome suggestions.

    Hiya Sargan.

How about Escallions, aka Welsh Onions. I have a few on my plot, and are quite handy if you want something akin to spring onions. You can pretty much pull them at any time of year. To propagate, it's just a matter of dividing them up and replanting, dead easy:blue thumb:
