I very strongly disagree. "Cameras around" is not the same as "posting a picture on the internet without asking permission"

You might presume that the occasion was a public place, and thus acceptable, but I think that is debatable and personally I think it would be better not to presume such a thing and to ask first.

If there is someone who's photograph has been posted here without permission who is upset in any way it would be a pity for them to not go to Shiney's next year, or to not want to correspond on GC, as a consequence ...

I do remember having a conversation with you at the meal ArmandII around pictures/video content and asked you if you were going to put up the photos online. I don't think it is fair if people wish to remain anonymous on a site that they are then pointed out on videos/pics. As I said to you on Saturday night sometimes it's also about feeling comfortable with the person behind the lens/trusting they have good intentions.
It's not my intention to cause a row here but to encourage people to be a bit more aware.

I would be very obliged if you were to move this part of your discussion to either a group PM or to a separate thread. :love30:

    Thanks very much :dbgrtmb: :)

I did think carefully about the matter, Kristen, and as I said earlier I do sincerely apologise to anyone who's privacy and space I have intruded upon. But, after some consideration I concluded that my only other options were to pm everyone, including all the other visitors, friends and helpers, along with the pics to ask permission, or not to post the pics at all and thereby not be able to celebrate the whole occasion and show members what a great day it was. I try to be sensitive to peoples wishes, however, how much censorship should we level regarding pictures. I don't think any member who was there was unaware of the possibility of pictures being taken and shown on GC. If you take that line of thinking to the extreme anyone taking holiday snaps shouldn't put them in on the Net as they could include total strangers walking by.

But again, I do sincerely apologise to anyone who feels their privacy and space has been invaded.

Understood, Shiney, I think everyone has aired their opinions and anyone who wants to continue the point they can pm me, although I would hope that we all understand and the matter is now closed.:snork:

I honestly don't know what to say on the subject, since people perception of their pictures online varies broadly.:th scifD36:
Online social networking made it so natural to post pictures some people start posting pictures of their children after a pregnancy scan! Not to mention throughout their childhood etc.
I myself don't really want my face to be online, I am not comfortable with it the same as I don't like to say much about myself and what I do. Possibly because I am not that used to facebook etc because of my age.(PS although I am a curious monkey when it comes to look at somebodys pictures)
I will make an exception this time and not be too fussy even though some close up are too close, since Armandii is a "nice bloke" as David Beckham would say.

Sorry I did not clearly articulate my point. The "friends and helpers" are faces in a crowd. Whereas attributing specific people to an online profile - by posting a photo and identifying who is in it, even if by reference from posts earlier in the thread as to which Usernames were attending - identifies them in combination with their online persona. Someone who knows X can now associate that person with all the posts they have made here.

I'm sure you know the issues, but off the top of my head the ones that I think are likely to concern people include:

People may post from work, but normally no one knows who they are because they use a pseudonym. See a photo here, trace back to when they posted, their job could be in jeopardy.

A prospective employer researching the internet may find the person here - perhaps at some point that person got into a heated debate and said something they now regret ...

People may not have been truthful with partners etc. about their online presence.

People may prefer to have privacy online.

People may have insecurity about their appearance, but behind their forum pseudonym no one knows that.

That describes how I feel about my online persona exactly.

I've moved this part of the discussion so as not to detract from Shiney's thread, feel free to carry it on.

I hope those concerned don't mind this course of action:smile:

Not a problem for me Jack. You were indeed a good looking man on the outside . What's the problem is more often than not on the inside.
Lovely shot of you as a nipper:wub2:

Personal choice Jack, rather than an enforced one :)

There is a thread here somewhere of mug-shots, would seem a reasonable conclusion to me that anyone in that gallery is happy to have they Username associated with their photo, and anyone not in that thread might not be :blue thumb:

I didn't and never have particularly liked my photo being taken as I am very conscious of my snub nose and big bum! :lunapic 130165696578242 5: However, I am who I am flaws and all and if a photo shows me off just how overweight with all my disability etc then so be it. The bit I wasn't happy about was being identified. Those that saw me at Shiney's fair enough they now know what I look like. A facial pic put on the names to faces thread is one thing but being identified as a fat frump, which I admit I am, is not everybodies idea of good publicity. But I promise I wont hold it against anyone. It's my cross to bear!:gaah:
