When should i harvest carrots?

    hi guys, i bought some little carrot plants from BnQ a few months ago now, was just wondering when do i dig them up does it have to be a certain time or can you just dig them up when ever you want to eat them?

    Thanks :biggrin: ....have never grown an edible crop before :scratch:

    Lift them as and when you need them provided they've grown big enough. We've just started lifting baby carrots that I sowed in a pot and we just pull out a few when needed.

      Depends if you want maximum yield, if so wait until the tops start to die, if you want young sweet carrots, scrape down to see how big they have grown and if you are satisfied with the size pull them out and enjoy.

        When you bruise the foliage it gives out a smell that the Carrot fly will find, so best pull them all at once or put a barrier all the way round, they won't fly over 200mm.

        We used to put parafin around to disguise the smell but i don't know if its still legal to buy that in Manchester.

        Thanks a lot folks,

        i have only got 2 growing hahaha so dont think i need to worry to much about carrot flys they probably wouldnt waste their time for what its worth.

        Think i will wait til autumn then and then dig them up :biggrin:
