So far I've been unable to pay my gas bill, my credit card bill or top up my cash ISA. The 'online banking facility' which my bank pretty much insisted I had, is used purely to check my balances and transfer money between my own accounts. I don't use it very often, perhaps once a month, but just about every time I enter my 'Customer number', a random order 3 digits of my PIN and the randomly selected letters and/or numbers of my password I wait and am actually surprised if the inevitable 'temporary problems' message doesn't appear.

I wish they'd explain exactly how this is .... 'Helpful' Annoying - yes. Inconvenient - yes. Frustrating - yes. Helpful? Well, actually, errrr NO.

They sent me a grovelling E mail today, saying the branches will be open tomorrow, and Sunday, even.

        :wow:
Just proves technology dont work that well really, as I say, just a toy for us to play with.
I only use it to check my balance.

The rest of the time I use my debit card or a cheque.
The whole internet thing, with viruses and PC problems, power cuts, etc. etc.

Its not worth doing anything online without a manual back up.

I bet they like you more than me Woo, they just hate someone who is not in debt these days. :)

Clueless has summed it up exactly
The new software introduced a bug, a bug that could be exploited, so system in lockdown

Now I know it is not a lot, but four people, out of sixtytwo who visited, have tried it on,
No longer entitled to the benefit they used to get up to last week, and asking for this weeks payment to be paid in cash to them

It is good the banks promising to make good, ONLY thing is it is SAVERS money that once again is paying for it

I am sick of the banks paying interest on my retirement savings at 2% below inflation, thus losing money every week, Then they lend MY money out to Borrowers at 8%

Now how do I get ALL savers to withdraw their cash, we are losing out anyway, so make the same under the mattress as with the banks,
The banks would then have nothing to lend and no profit to make CRASH

In fact I can double wammy them, take my money out, so they have less to lend
Then pay my Daughters mortgage off with it, so they are not getting anything from her either BIGGER CRASH

I will email the chancellor with my plans :-)

I can see them waving the overdrawn charge as it is there fault, and money that would not have come in anyway, but promising to pay in Full incured costs ie hotel bills because people could not travel home, Taxis because the car was out of fuel
        Out of MY money
        Grrrrrr

All giving the outlook of a caring sharing bank
Then the software company will get paid in full with enhanced bonus for completion

The top link is Sky News, looks like a legit story.

          Edit; Story now up...

          http://news.sky.com/story/952931/fraud-ring-in-hacking-attack-on-60-banks

"If all of the attempted fraud campaigns were as successful as the Netherlands example we describe in this report, the total attempted fraud could be as high as 2bn (£1.6bn)."

Back in the day, I'd get shirty letters from the bank telling me I was overdrawn - in fact, on one famous occasion they actually wrote to draw my attention to my 'unarranged borrowing' of 78p! But I digress.

I still get shirty letters from the bank, these now tell me that I don't use my credit card enough (bank speak for 'well you use it but pay it off so we don't get any interest out of you and that's not fair', stamps feet, gets upset!) and that unless I start doing so, they will 'withdraw this facility'. The irony is, that in the same post which had the 'use it or lose it' threat, came another letter telling me that '.... as a valued credit card customer ...' they were pleased to tell me that my '.... credit limit has been increased ...' by another £1,000!

Just what I was waiting for, so now I'm going to do what? Suddenly start 'maxing' it out and only paying off the minimum? :nonofinger:

I had to open a banking account that allows debit orders ... (my other account is a savings account and one cannot do stop orders etc on that account)

lady at the bank was ever so friendly when I filled in the forms .... she offered me a £600 credit card .... I refused

she continued promoting the credit card ... eventually I said OK ... thought that if I do get it, I will not use it and keep it for an emergency

she punched in all my info on the computer, ....

she went red in the face, then said:

'it has not gone through this time, but come see me in a few months'

I just smiled .... my credit rating is not good ... I buy everything cash nowadays
