I have had this for years and it only bloomed for the first time last year (just a couple of flowers). I think I know what it is but would like confirmation.

It is woody stemmed with leatherly leaves about 8cm long and heavily scented blooms about 4cm across with six petals.

Also, some of the leaves are slightly yellowing in patches so what is the cause of that?

    Many thanks in advance.

Thanks, Sheal, that is what I thought but Stephonotis has a five-petal flower and mine has six.

      :) Hello Stephen

I had looked at that some time ago but I don't think so.

I think it's something on the lines of a Madevilla though victoria... however distantly related, it's got the same yellow throat and petal count although the bit it's missing is the whorl to the flowers and the petals are a bit "thicker" set if you know what I mean:rolleyespink:

I still don't agree with Mandeville. The M laxa has large tubular flowers and large leaves. Mine has 8cm long leaves and 4cm across flat flowers. It's not liking the hot sun at the moment.

Had a quick look through my A to Z yesterday Victoria and it's definitely not Stephanotis, as you say your plant has six petals. I'll have a closer look later and see if I can come up with something else. :)

It's very difficult because Jasminum sambac is the only Jasmine I know with leaves of the shape shown above, most other Jasmines have the segregated leaves (eg Jaminum officinale, polyanthum, humile etc).. maybe there is another type of Jasmine that has leaves like this? I definitely bahaves like a Jasmine in the photo (it's flowers)

Jasminum multiflorum is a contender also however these flowers have too many petals.. the leaves are similar to yours with J. multiforum though.

        I think it's this too Stephen. :)

Victoria if you look at Jasminum Sambac Images on the internet, I think you will find that's what you have.

Stephen and Sheal, I've just googled J Sambac and it could well be that as I found this picture which looks amazingly like mine ...

There were some stunning double ones, like mini Gardenias. Mine isn't blooming at the moment.

I have a friend here who had something similar so I phoned her last night and she said hers was called Madagascar Jasmine, which of course is the Stephanotis, but she couldn't remember how many petals it had.

        Thank you all.
