Just to clarify: If your house is facing South, then if you stand in front of the far fence, facing the house, you are facing North?

Hi Allison, you'll find that when Gardeners talk about direction they usually talk about the direction the garden faces, not the house.:snork: So obviously your garden faces North!!.:coffee:

If that's the only error you make in gardening. Allisio, you'll be lucky, as experienced gardeners know that getting a garden how you want it is littered with mistakes!!:heehee: But that's half the fun of gardening, trying to get things right.:snork:

    How about a bamboo.
Maybe one of the Fargesias - clumping, not rampant, and are quite graceful
In particular, I have a Fargesia rufa against one fence. It is marginally taller (4 years after planting) and seems to be spreading outwards slowly.

You guys can't both be right!

Fence faces South, and House faces North. Garden can't also face North then Armandii?

Either way, the fence in question is facing South and in full sun. No shade to worry about. Sounds ideal to me!

I take it that Allison is talking about facing the rear of her house, Kristen. Alison says that if she faces her House with her back to and from the rear fence she is facing South.
Therefore, if Allison turns around with her back to the House then she's got to be facing North and therefore her garden is facing North.:dunno:
