It's a brilliant bargain if your ready to go bin diving! The earlier you go the better too! They chuck all the veg seeds in one bin and flowers in another so you need time to sift through. I'm lazy though so got mine a couple of weeks ago while they were still on the racks at half price. I only bought a few packets too as I've still got loads of seeds that need using up.

They leave them on the racks for the first few days, so as long as you are quick they should still be "nicely ordered" but, yeah, I've sat cross-legged on the floor there tipping out buckets of seed packets and sorting through them !!

        Hi All,

I went to my local one on Friday and got the list below, I only went in for bulbs and guess what I didn't get any just seeds

Sweet pea - Night and Day
        Petunia
        Busy Lizzie
        Tomato - Sweet baby
        Achillea - Summer Berries
        Radish - Scarlet Globe
        Pumpkin - Amazonka
        Parsnip - Tender and True
        Beetroot - Globe 2
Sweet Pea - Pink Cupid (these are ony 20 cm thought they would be nice in pots by seating area)
Sweet Pea - Sugar and Spice (hanging basket variety)
        Lobelia - Tupa

All are either Suttons or Thompson and Morgan I paid £8.45 which I thought was a bit of a bargain.

        Rusty

I bought 16 packets between £1.45 and £1.99 - TBH, and now I think about it, I might as well have bought those in the earlier 50% sale - I would have had more choice.

And, conincidentally!, I also bought 16 packets at £2.00+ ... these are mainly poncy F1 hybrids, that I don't have any particular alledgance to, and I would have been happy to get them, or some other F1 choice, in the 50p-a-packet sale ...

I also got 5 packets of Peas, Beans, etc. all bar one were £2.00 plus (and there was plenty of stock so waiting would not have meant I missed out ...)

Interestingly Carters Runner Beans (big packet) were £1.00 ... that's quite a bargain

It makes interesting reading to see which things are less than £2.00, and which are more ... if it were not for the fixed 50p price I would have been discerning based, somewhat, on price:

          Rhubarb Chard £1.45
          Spinach Beet £.145
but Swiss Chard Bright Lights is £2.35 (fewer seeds too ...)
No difference in flavour, just colour & fashion, IMHO - plenty of Ruby ones in a packet of Bright Lights :)

Leaf Salad (poncy name, that one!) is £2.35 ... and Squash F1 Cobnut, 12 seeds for £4.25 :hate-shocked:

Just as I'm packing my fishing rods for a trip away I find out about this. Now I'll have to use 'Wyevale' storefinder and get up slightly earlier just in case I miss out on something.

I went this afternoon on my way home from work and got 28 packets, mostly veg, the best bargain were the all female Cucumber F1, should have been £4.99/packet (maybe the same as what you got Kristen?). Also cleaned them out of the Parthenon F1 Courgette, now have enough for the next year or two or three :) Those big packets of Peas and Beans are terric value.

They had only just put the seeds out, so they weren't in such a jumble yet.

I nearly bought a packet of Musa basjoo but managed to summon up the will power to put it back, I've got enough bananas already :blue thumb:

Hahaha ... no - I took a leaf out of what I thought was your book and decided I would buy plants of Cues next year from them instead of spending money on seeds that I then fail to manage to grow!

I expect you only got 4 seeds in the packet? I wonder why F1 Cues are so expensive to "make"?

My most expensive was Mushroom spawn :)

Surely Basjoo is sterile? (well the one that everyone grows). I've read of seed, and it must have originated that way, but I'm doubtful that the hardiness would be assured from seed, so I reckon you saved yourself a Bob or two (well, 10 Bob actually!)

:snork: I do intend to buy cucumber plug plants again, so these seeds are insurance, just in case they don't do plugs next year or are too expensive or I lose them. The worst thing about the cuc plug plants were they arrived too early, so they were out-growing my grow-light rig and went into the unheated greenhouse only to be hit by a cold snap. I was lucky not to lose any.

Yes only 4 or 5 seeds RRP £4.99! Expensive compared to other F1 seed? Yes I suppose they are, must be more labour intensive I guess.

Didn't spot that, was it in a big pack?

Actually I think the seed packet just said Musa thinking about it.

10 Bob for a packet of seed doesn't sound a bargain. 50p does!

Not one of those polystyrene mushroom kits (if that was what you were thinking?) but it is quite a large packet (similar size to a packet of runner bean seeds) of dry mushroom spawn. Probably won't do anything, but I thought worth a punt for 10-Bob :)

                So true!

Yes I was thinking of those! Well at least I won't be spending £££s on petrol dashing back to Wyevale this morning :)

That would have been a coup at 50p-a-box, I would have bought the whole stack!

                  Hi All,

Just been to my local one for some seeds. Got all the basket an pots sorted for me and mother in law for £5.50 should have been £37. Also they are doing winter Pansies and Violas down from £3.99 to £1 for a tray of 6 so I also got 6 trays. So 36 plants and 11 packets of seed cost £11.50. What a bargain :dancy:
