Another reason for not upgrading is that one of the PC's I use is supplied by work and it is a 'standard' build, we can only install products on there approved by the IT outsource company. Both my company and the IT outsource company are multi-national giants and nothing happens quickly. Any upgrades have to be extensively tested then approved by several commitees in several countries and all four current Popes :) OK that's an obvious exaggeration, but there is an element of truth and we are running 3 or 4 years behind all the current versions of business products.

The other thing is, that I have been told by friends that some of the upgrades will no longer support some of their current software.

One time when I worked for a massive firm handling a massive government contract, a single automatic update slipped through the net. It was a low priority patch for IE6. Normally automatic updates were blocked until the other IT team (not my team:) ) had fully tested it but this one got through.

It cost the company literally 100s of thousands of pounds in lost working time and contractual penalties for missed targets etc because that one minor update took down one of our core applications.

I still think most people and companies should upgrade as and when they can, because generally it is better that way, but if a business critical app depends on a particular setup, its best not to change that setup without the most thorough and comprehensive testing.

So back to the problem, I see Kandy is able to use the chat box on the main page but is still unable to reply to any threads. There may be others locked out too.

There appear to be some clues on the Xenforo support fora, it looks like clueless's idea is about right. Can Richard.r look into this please?

Fixed the Non-working of the site with help from Grandson.
IE is supposed to automatically upgrade, but we are still on 9 not 10. Cannot find a way of forcing and upgrade either.

I might be wrong, but I think IE10 is only available on the new Windows 8 OS.

Wife now tells me that she let it update whilst I was out on my walk. She is definitely playing with my head.

I think you have a good point there, Shiney. I find that the Microsoft updates can knock my computer off kilter after it has reconfigured it, and for some reason it will even delete the sound device and I have to reset it all........again.:gaah:

Mine does automatic updates but just to the security stuff (technical term :heehee:). Even then, I have also had trouble with the sound switching off!

I leave the computer to do all my up-dating on all my programs even though I do a vulnerability test and PC tune up every night. But it does seem to be the Microsoft updates that always causes problems.:dunno:
