Has anyone ordered from Crug Farm recently?

    Any comments?

I was trawling their website on the weekend.
Their stuff isn't cheap. And neither is the postage - £25 minimum charge!

But they do have some fantastic goodies that aren't available elsewhere.

I've been to Crug Farm several times and bought plants from them, Sirius. If you could make the haul here for the day it would be worth it just to see what they have. There are so many "different" plants there and you get good advice on how to grow them. Most of the plants are hardy and they're well aware it's no good selling people stuff that won't survive in the UK climate, so a lot of the plants are from high up on mountains etc. It would be better to visit if you could rather than pay the £25 minimum charge although you'd buy more than you intended. :heehee:

      Armandii,
I have been there once, but many years ago.

They classify some of their Scheffleras as hardy, but I have my doubts.

It would cost me a lot more than £25 in petrol for the return trip

Crug Farm are the one who introduce most of the hardy plants to UK , T-REX was introduced by them and many other as well , not cheap , never ordered .....
It`s the big boy toy for gardner , you can end up spend £500 and walk out with 6/7 plants , overall rare and unique .......but at the same time you will find plants
that you can buy cheaper anywhere else

        Sal,
        That's the thing.
They have some plants listed that I have never seen anywhere else.
Most in the £8 to £15 range. Plus the postage........

            Sal,

I am sorry I missed that show.
They could have brought the plants I wanted for me to collect.

There were some rare Aristolochias, Dioscorea and some obscure Fuschias.

I guess if I had to order them from 3 different nurseries, the postage would come to the same.

I bought some Tricyrtis from them a few years ago and they were excellent plants. Sadly my care (lack of experience) and to a certain extent growing conditions failed them. Now that I have moved and have a better range of conditions, and know more too, I am looking to place another order.

I have sourced several from elsewhere cheaper, but they are smaller and will need an extra season to match Crug standards.

Crug are also meticulous in their identification of plants, which is important.

For me, their postage of £25 seems a bit steep!

Yes and no. Dear compared to others, but it ensures the safe delivery of pricey plants.

                      True.

I have become interested in Aristolochia recently.
Am considering getting one or two from them. They have some really rare ones.

They have some rare Tricyrtis too, hence my familiarity with them.
