I was just reading yesterday about this new found nickel allergy to coins that have been coated in nickel like the 10 p coins that we are using now. Any of you had an allergic reactions to it?

I seem to be allergic to all money. It seems every time I have any i have to get rid of it.

Being serious though, I wonder if this is the same thing that once caused my sister to have a very nasty perfectly circular skin problem on her wrist once. She saw a dermatologist and all sorts before someone finally twigged that it started when she got her brand new watch. Some metal on the back of it had caused the reaction.

that sound very much like an allergy to at least one of the the alloy components.

I have a nickel allergy, only notice it when I wear jeans, the stud against my skin causes a red itchy rash, I have to wear something I can push into the jeans to create a barrier.
Not noticed it with money yet, I hate to see children allowed to put coins in their mouths, think about it, how many people have handled a coin in circulation, how many washed their hands , I always told my children, money is the dirtiest thing you will ever handle.
After working handling money all day my hands had a terrible smell, even though I had washed my hands several times throughout the day.

I have a nickel allergy like Pam - Not Nice :ouch1: - seem to remember it started when I was about 15 - am OK with gold/silver :snork: but yes - jeans buttons, bra straps, watches, and those arthritis bracelets (sadly) As well as silver, I buy swatch plastic watches - but the winders get me, and unfortunately I have passed this on to my son :oopss: .
Regarding money - must say I haven't had an allergy yet - but again it's never in my hands long enough - and I prefer the paper to the coins anyway :heehee: .
I remember inheriting a beautiful "gold" necklace from an aunt - was not hall-marked but I know not all gold is - to be safe I wore it over a high necked jumper but I still got the ring of fire round my neck even through the jumper.

When I used to visit Mum & Dad, i'd be expecting the instant flu like symptoms of the dog allergy. One day I turned up and it wasn't anywhere near as bad.

I thought about what was different & realised I wasn't wearing my ear rings, although I showed no signs of silver allergy it was making the dog allergy worse.

I do get a skin rash from certain metal belt buckles though.

Only allergic to shrimps, and only recently.
I love fresh cooked shrimps but I usually end up itching all night after eating them these days.

Anyone with the nickel allergy is very welcome to bundle up any offending coins and sent them my way.:snork:

Just remembered i am now allergic to penicillin, came on when I was 55. Had an abscess under a tooth, I was in agony so took some anti-biotics washed down with a treble/quadruple brandy,I was already drunk trying to kill the pain, went into anaphylactic shock, not surprising really, can`t have pennicillin since.

Spectacle frames and belt buckles are two others that haven't been mentioned (have nickel allergy in the family).

I have a nickel allergy too, belt buckles, watch straps, anything containing nickel that has contact brings me out into a raised itchy red rash where the nickel is. Had it for as long as I can remember. Penicillin is another one too, and heights, deep water, confined spaces, busy places, trains, noise, I have virtigo as well, :snork:

'Kinell, how do I cope!!..............

regarding the gold if you are allergic to the copper in it you can try one with less copper.
