Hi all, I'm from East Sussex, just 100 m from the sea front. My large garden is South facing which, when I moved in 5 years ago was over run by trees, shrubs and BIND WEED! I've managed to eradicate the bind weed in part of my garden but I've along way to go yet. I have so so many plans I would like to do and have finally got the courage to join GC to get advice and ideas. Due to being on my own and with hip and elbow problems I am now looking to improve my garden which will make it easier for me to maintain. I will send pics in a bit. Thanks

Thank you all for the welcome! I've finally uploaded some photos of my garden. It's a complete mess...haven't touched it two weeks . My first question is... Previously the garden was full of huge bushes which I have now cut down. The soil would have been depleted of any goodness. A couple of years back I put some horse manure over a large amount of it but it was fresh manure and I couldn’t really plant anything there until it was well rotted down. I have quite a lot of biennials and bulbs so I’m not quite sure how to get the goodness in. I know you can buy manure from the garden centres but would I just put this on the top? And is there another, slightly cheaper way of doing it? Would this be a yearly thing? As you can see, I get a bit confused…....Help!!

Exellent. Thanks. My soil is pretty much concrete at the moment. I'll look into the website you gave me. Is it ok to do it now? Or should I say, when is it more beneficial to apply?
Looking at your pics, it looks to me like a lot of the garden is doing ok. In fact it looks quite pretty. When I did mine it was because nothing would grow, so I had a blank canvass and was able to turn the whole ground over and mix in the mushroom compost. With an established garden, you can top dress with the mushroom compost, and just work it in in any areas that are not planted up.
