For some reason, it could be pilot error, I've lost all my e-mail addresses. I back up regularly on an external drive but have not needed to use it for restoring anything. So the question is..... would they be stored on the drive for me to retrieve please. :)

It depends how you store your email addresses, on hotmail they are stored on the web, if you use Outlook they will probably be stored in a .PST file which will be in a folder on your 'C' dive (maybe in Settings\user_id\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook). So if you backed that file up you should be able to restore it, but be careful as that file also contains your calendar and emails etc and you might lose all your recent stuff.

Thing is, why has it disappeared? Have you had some updates?

What email client do you use Sheal, assume you are using a windows PC?

I'm definitely not well up on computers but I have my .PST files specifically chosen to be backed up. Apparently, a lot of back up programmes need to be set to do so.

Make a copy your existing PST file before over-writing it Sheal.

          Thanks John and Shiney.

Yes John, I'm on Windows 7. We're pretty much captive here on the island so I'm on Manxnet.

I don't know why it's disappeared, what's worrying me is all but three email addresses have vanished and one of the remaining ones was an old address that I deleted almost two years ago, it's almost as if it's reverted to an original list.
I've had updates from Windows since my last back-up which was under two weeks ago, could there have been something amongst those that would have an effect? I don't think so.

My son knows my computer inside out and being as my 'background' knowledge of it isn't great I'm wondering whether I should let him take a look via remote. He may spot something or some reason for this to have happened. I don't want to go in and cause more damage not knowing exactly what I'm doing. :)

I think it's a very good idea to get him to look at it. :blue thumb:

Problem solved! My daughter had been on my computer last week, signed me out of email and signed herself in, she then forgot to reverse the situation. Her wrists are well and truly slapped!

            Thanks guys. :)

Ooh you missed an opportunity there @Sheal. Imagine the fun you could have had. In fact, even better, imagine the fun you can still have. Tell her you definitely did not send any emails to her husband, her boss, her mates while pretending to be her:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

No such luck Clueless! She must have most of her email addresses stored elsewhere as there were only a few family ones listed. That's how I found out what the problem was, I tried to send an email to my other half and it came up listed as dad. :heehee:

Right now my daughter is having a battle over personal/personnel issues with the company she works for, so not a good idea to send anything to her boss anyway. :)
