Brief introduction, I'm a former lazy individual who for 13 years thought my garden was the pit of Satan and should be approached with caution every other year or so. However I've since severely tidied things up (so well that most of my pals insist I 'must of got someone in') and finding I'm actually enjoying it and can't wait to crack on out there again. I never knew it could be so addictive! I hope to get lots of tips over the next few months from you fine people. First stop the beginners thread....

      Hello and welcome.

Is that in Derbyshire, anywhere near this one?

Have you done it yet? Have you bought a spade that cost more than £6.99 and isn't a Wilkos/B&Q/Homebase own brand one?

Anyway, I'm glad you're getting into it:)

Oh yes. I have numerous tools. In fact 3 workable spades which I've inherited from the previous owners. A hand trowel, hand fork (still need it's bigger brother), bow saw, secateurs, a handy mesh plastic container thingy for rooting out rubble, shears, loppers and some very durable gloves.

The gloves will be the first to go. There is a glove fairy.
