Last time i went there, there was a very smelly factory, wonder if they'll be doing anything about that, if indeed it's still there

Did it smell like Bridgwater used to when the Cellophane was made there?

      No comment:whistle: but can't resist...

I do wish them every success and hope it will give Hull a better image ....don't know how they are going to tittivate the derelict buildings and fill all the empty shops though to make them look all bonny and nice for the main event but i'm sure they will:whistle:....
It's very sad to see how IMO Hull has deteriorated ....Yes they have built sort of 'state of the art' shopping precincts yet they fail to notice that the rest of the town is boarded up....and even half the units in the new places are empty....
They have their work cut out....statistics have probably changed since i last bothered to look but from what i read it had the highest unemployment rate, crime rate, drug problems,Alcohol problems and teenage pregnancies....Ey...but they can't say they don't have fun in Hull;)....

It would be good to prove the stats wrong...:dbgrtmb:

My nanna always said she was born in Scotland. We found out sometime after she'd died that she was actually from Hull. Nobody who knew her has any recollection of her having admitted that;)

I've only seen a bit of Hell. We drove through some massive humgous industrial estate on our way to the port to get on a ferry.

Don't know about Hull, we're sick as a pig in Leicester, though.

Seriously, Hull really needs a bit of a helping hand. After all, we've got Richard III, hopefully, fingers crossed.

There was, until recent times, a Cocoa Factory and a Chocolate Factory (Needlers), both of which sent a lovely smell wafting across the city, till you got to the fish docks :)

I read in a book once ("Top 50 crap towns" I think it was called, with Hull ranking at the top), that the chocolates factory "doesn't smell like chocolate, it smells of death".

I can't say I noticed a smell of death when I passed through it, but I was very tired at the time.

I believe it to be a council mentality. Woking are currently doing the same - shiny new centre and bugger the rest of the surrounding villages.

A chocolate factory and fish docks. I sense some sort of foodie themed excursion coming on.

They should set up some posh fish restaurants near the docks, like they used to have under the Galata bridge in Istanbul, before they demolished it. Selling proper fresh fish, straight off the boats. In Istanbul they also cook it as street food right in front of you. The UK's prissy health and safety rules would put paid to anything like that.

They've built a new bridge since i was there in 1989. A bit of a tourist trap, apparently, but then, Hull needs a tourist trap!
