Thank you, that's really fab to hear!
I'd love to get get feedback from both Armandii and Jenny. I'm so new at this camera lark and roses. though some planted a few years ago, are still fairly new to me.

Grass snake btw. they are often around the pond, one slithered over my foot once when I was feeding the ducks, jumped about 10 feet in the air. Would not have got close enough to photograph it if an adder, they freak me out - as do rats.

I guess I should migrate to the main forum now. Trepidacious!

    Thanks for your support FC.

Armandii is the man for camera stuff; I know less than nothing about cameras (Mrs C is the photographer in this house), and Armandii was kind enough to help me get lenses and macro kit for Mrs C's birthday last year.

You'll be fine no matter which part of the forum you end up in - its nothing like DS :snork:

How did I miss this thread??? Thanks FC for the tag:love30:

Hi MLB, glad to have you back again. I agree with everyone your garden looks and sounds just great............and best of all it's obvious you love it which is what gardening is all about. As you know and have found out the Gang here are very friendly, have a great sense of humour, and always willing to help.
As regards photography, I'm no expert but I do enjoy taking the pics and as you've seen a lot of the members take absolutely great pics. So if you enjoy doing that you'll take great pics believe. Can I ask what kind of camera you have and then we can continue the subject on the photography Forum or whatever Forum you choose!!

Thanks JWK, Jenny and Armandii. Such warm welcomes. Yes Jenny, it is very cottagey. but still very much a project. when I moved in there was no garden as such, the previous owners had 4 kids and a dog, didn't like gardening. So I've created all the borders from scratch. Pot courtyard is my real passion though. Might have to cut back, up to over 120 pots now.

The camera, Armandii is a Nikon bridge, coolpix P520. I'm just back indoors from deslugging - over a pound in weight tonight - no wonder I have no veg left! Can't bring myself to use pellets as I've a resident hedgehog, but boy are they getting me down. No carrot or parsnip seedlings survived this year, on my 4th lot of beans, peas gone, even onions getting eaten - something I've never seen before.
      Nematodes applied, must try harder.
Still, flowers coming on a treat. First annual phlox opened today, quite stunning!

      Thanks again all.

That's a very good camera, MLB and with a bit of practice you'll be confident with it and thinking out how to get the best angle, the best light etc.!!!:snork:

My garden is Cottage style and if you're going in that direction then think Hardy Perennials as they will form the backbone of borders in that style. The key is to take you time and let it develop naturally as your ideas will change over time.:coffee::snork:

That's good news re the camera, but are associated skills innate? Will it come from practice or do I need to buy a book to learn? I'm keen but on a limited (unemployed) budget.
        Thanks Armandii.

Hi MLB, I've moved this chat to a Thread called "Taking Close Up [Macro] Garden pics" in the Members Hobby Forum to make things easier.

Don't know if you checked out my link Armandii. but the garden is pretty much built on hardy perennials. In fact to the detriment of structure for the winter. I have a few small shrubs and cuttings growing on in pots to counter this. My main objectives are fragrance for me and food for the wildlife. Four frogs tonight whilst slugging - no shortage of food for them, too much in fact. Toad living in my arum lily pot, hedgehog pottering about. Birds aplenty because of my pond side location.

My big issue is the front garden. Pictures are on the link above. It's east facing and I planted it not long after I moved in and before I had any idea what I was doing. So planted a lavender border (very bad idea) and loads of HPs. They all look marvellously healthy, but delphs and japanese anemones have taken over. I need to start again, take out the hedge that stops the sun reaching it, probably remove the rubbish moss lawn and figure out a way to stop the next door neighbours bindweed, ground elder and overflowing stream invading! Lots to do.

Thanks for the input. I will, no doubt, need more.
