I have been pondering this for some time and can't come up with an answer and as time is running out thought I would ask you good people what would you do:smile:

Mr Kandy and myself have been invited to a wedding on Monday December 22nd this year.Due to Mr Kandys work comitments we are unable to attend as he has too much work to do where he works before the close down for the Christmas break:sad:

As we are not going to the wedding I would like to ask your advice as to whether we should send them a wedding gift? When the bridegrooms brother got married last year we attended that wedding so as the invite said they wanted money to go towards their honeymoon we gave them a cheque for £100. Mr Kandy now wants to do the same for this wedding but I pointed out that as we are not going then why should we hand over money:scratch: This family have not really been part of our lives for the last 30 odd years and we only see them on the odd occasion now (weddings, anniversaries funerals etc:smile:)

We have got a nice card for them so will have to send it off soon as time is marching on but would like to know what to do for the best without causing bad feelings.

Christmas is an expensive time of the year as it is and if they were having a summer wedding on a Saturday we would be attending:smile:

    So,what would you do?

Same for all, it`s your choice not to attend, unfortunately it`s a poor choice of wedding date.

snap! My sister gets married on the same day. Despite not having any holiday left and work being busy we just had to go and I managed to juggle one of my volunteering days around.

My sister (both of them married twice before and having everything they need) asked people not to buy presents, but could optionally donate to their named charity. I would suggest you donate directly whatever you feel comfortable with to your choice of charity and tell them what you have done (you don't need to say how much).

We got married on April 4th and there was only one slot available on that day, but 3 days earlier the entire day was free. I wanted to go for it but Mrs Scrungee wouldn't let me.

I agree. As you don't see them or here from them from one decade to another I think that's a good choice.

I would feel you cannot treat them differently, I wouldn`t like it, but would feel I had to.

In the past we've been invited to 'family' weddings from people we even struggle to remember who they are!

Recently we received an invitation from the son (who we've never seen) of a cousin we haven't heard from in over 30 years. The wedding was in America and my sister (who received the same invitation) said that they only invited us so that they would get a present and they knew we wouldn't go over there. We sent a very nice congratulations card. :heehee:

A couple of years ago we received an invite to a wedding from someone else I hadn't spoken to for over 20 years and had only ever met them twice (Mrs Shiney had never met them). They sent a poem that was asking for money to help set up home and a paying-in slip for their bank!! :hate-shocked: I can't tell you what Mrs Shiney said :heehee:
