I feel like a bit of a cheat with this because all I've done is put the bulb in a pot but this Hippeastrum 'Sumatra' I really love. It has a bright shiny pomegranate red fading to cerise and white and more dramatic a flower than usual amaryllis.

I don't think it's set down any roots yet so the compost has just stayed damp which has me worried about the bulb rotting but we'll see.

Run your finger down the side of the bulb (all the way to the bottom) and check for any squidgy bits. If there are any scrape the compost away and clean off with kitchen towel. A bit of sulphur powder would be good.

They make cracking summer bulbs in a pot outdoors. Here's mine (H.cybister "Chico")................

I forgot it was outdoors and it took a fair bit of frost. I treated it the same as I said above and touching wood I appear to have arrested the damage and the first sign of foliage is emerging.

Today from a walk around my town. Sorry about the poor quality.. they are taken with my old ipod touch.

First photo is Marguerite Daisy.. this hasn't stopped flowering for at least 5 years.

                Escallonia rubra flowering now

                IMG_0261.JPG

Rosmary flowering now, the cascading variety.

                IMG_0263.JPG

Erigeron daisies still keeping their flowers but that's fairly normal.. they will flower all year

                IMG_0264.JPG

                Pelargoniums (Zonal Geraniums) flowering still.

Carpobrotus sending out it's succulent growth in all directions

                IMG_0266.JPG

One of many flowering Osteospermums, which are usually hitting just past their flowering peak at this time of year.

                Lavender angustifolia in bloom

                IMG_0270.JPG

Unfortunately sideways on the next photo, but it's a Lampranthus roseus trying to flower.. sending out flower buds.

                IMG_0271.JPG

Next one I'm not sure you'll be able to see properly.. it's a bottlebrush (Callistemon citrinus 'splendens') with two red flowers on in January on the top terrace (sorry sideways again).

                IMG_0272.JPG

A type of Mallow (Lavatera spp) still flowering.

                IMG_0275.JPG

Last one is Bergenia cordifolia, looking rather vibrant in January (as usual)

Oh these aren't my garden Jenny, just a selection of shots from various front gardens/taken over grassy areas at the front of houses. The only things flowering in my garden are Gazanias, Fuchsia and Felicia amelloides.. nothing very notable.

                  Nice shots everyone :blue thumb:

I'll try and get out into the garden and look around. Haven't been out there for weeks. Our garden is usually very slow to get going because we are surrounded by fields and get cold winds off them during the winter.
