Mr Wiseowl ( or anyone else who can help), could you please help identify this rose fir me please......

Similar colouring to a Peace, and certain characteristics, large flowers 5" plus, glossy leaves vigorous growth can be 5' by Sept, can send up blind shoots upto 6' hlgh.

However according to " The Rose Expert" book, Peace has little fragrance... Mine is heavily fragrant. And Peace is late flowering..... Mine usually starts in April.

It's funny you mentioning climbing, for a few years I had visions of digging it up, mines right on the pavement, it just seems to grow bushy from the base every year rather than actually climbing.

I'm mote than convinced now that we have the same one :)

Il take a pic tomo of it spread as it is now,i piled it with manure months back to see if that would replenish it again as it did nothing last yr but i think i pruned it at wrong time and too hard!
It seems to grow out sidewards than upward but more lenghy/leggy than a bush type
Ours is rooted right at the house wall sw facing, maybe i should prune it right back this winter??

Anthony.....Woo (wiseowl) will probably need a photograph taken looking at the rose face on. He may also need a petal count as well. :)

Good morning leave it with me my apologies for not answering sooner, only just seen this thread.Peace has pink edges on the petals which to the best of my knowledge can be strongly scented;)

Hybrid Tea. Yellow blend, pink edges. Mild to strong fragrance. Very large, full (26-40 petals), cupped, high-centered bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.

Thank you Mr Wiseowl, I love that history. I knew it was named at the end of the war but who would have thought all that happened. Amazing.

Mine tends to lose the pink as it ages, if that's any help.

Hi Mr Wiseowl definitely not Whisky Mac, I've grown that before. Arthur Bell, no that's a floribunda.

I'm beginning to think it's a Peace but instead of being true it may be a sport.

I know that Peace has sported before for example Pink Peace and Kronenbourg, which is new to me this year.

If it wasn't for the 54 petals I could accept that;)

Good evening @Anthony Rogers well lets see shall we the following are sports of Peace,
With respect I know of no Hybrid Tea Roses with 54 petals;)

                      Climbing Peace

                      Kronenbourg is also Flaming Peace

                      Pink Peace is also Meilbil

                      Lucky Peace

                      Peacesport

                      Chicago Peace

However, because the various recipients of these precious cuttings could not communicate with each other for the duration of the war, it was given several different names. France called it 'Madame A. Meilland' after Meilland's mother. Italy called it 'Goia' (Joy). Germany named it 'Glory Dei' (glory to God) and the USA called it 'Peace'.

A sport is a term used in horticulture to describe the way some plants grow just one branch or segment which is different from the original plant. Usually the sport has flowers which are differently coloured from those of the original plant
