    Hi Martin,

You've got a lovely blank space there to design to your own needs and wants.

Tree 1 looks like an oak to me by the leaves.

Tree 2 is a Silver Birch

As to if they have preservation orders on them, you should have been notified when you bought or rented your house. If you are unsure and want to do anything to them get in touch with your local council and they will find out and advise you.
Personally I'd leave them as they offer some privacy.

      Thank you Anthony :)

thank you for the tree info :) one or both produce quite a lot of sap also, which i can see being a pain, i dont want to do any thing drastic to the tree's like chop them down and make them into totem poles  but id just like to trim a lot of the lower branches, would that be something i can to do a protected tree? yes we were informed that the tree's were protected when we moved in but id just like to know the types of trees they were really, id really like to chop off the branch hanging close to my veggie patch to allow more sun light on the veggies :)

next thing on my list is going to be a hedge trimmer for the rear of the garden, but the height of them are + 3 meter's, might be a bit of a task

You've got plenty of space to fill there Martin so loads of gardening hours to put in, enjoy it. :)

I've just googled and according to the new preservation laws in 2012 you are not allowed to fell or remove any part of a protected tree without permission from your local authority.
