Now this is interesting.

I have tulips through the compost in the greenhouse and the garden. Spring bulbs start to grow earlier than many realise; snowdrops and crocuses start to develop roots and shoots in late summer and daffodils soon after.

Generally I tidy up anything that's gone black and mushy, but leave those things holding their shape. Might be a change this year, being so mild, and I'll take down the Acanthus senni, Dahlia imperialis and the Impatiens tinctoria after Christmas to give some of the spring growers a chance.

Light pollution is a growing problem; it upsets nocturnal creatures and makes terrestrial astronomy difficult especially from back gardens.

One of mine is just a mass of roots but no flowers, maybe it needs a bit of attention.
