If you're not that fussed about a smartphone @Ergates, you could look at a Doro. I have one, ideal for calls and texts. It does have a camera, but I can't comment on the quality as I don't use it.

@Peaceful Gardener so sorry about your husband, sometimes it happens like that. Your right about the cold compress maybe some muscle rub if he can stand the pain when rubbing it in.
