Rose Gauntlet
I (female though with medium hands) got Wilko gauntlets which were excellent against thorns and not too big. Range have taken over the Wilko brand, so might stock them

Bonemeal/Growmore/Chicken Pellets
I remember from when I was a kid, in the videogame minecraft, if you right click with the bonemeal on a small tree it will instantly become a mature 10m tree. So use it carefully!!!

Please identify this bush/shrub/dwarf tree?
I bought a couple of these. The first season after planting, the leaves were completely demolished by caterpillars. Rather put me off replacing them.
