A bamboo cane cut into short lengths also works well, using three in a triangle or four in a square. Easily hidden and reused or replaced.

The hybrid ones Devon Cream and one I was sold as Luna Moth (but isn't, it's like a bigger Devon cream) both flowered well last year. I'm amazed yours are all still green. Even the ones in my cold greenhouse aren't. I'm a sucker for hedychium, roscoea etc...

You are going to struggle its just the nature of climbing plants to be bare at the base while their heads are in the sun . Try and keep them more on a more diagonal angle 45 degrees to try and stimulate buds lower down, this will slow down the plant growing up , its not something I've done with...

I have grown Aptenia, very small flowers for me, but if you like the foliage then you get a lot of that.I notice there is a variegated variety.

Some of my neighbours employ a dodgy looking window cleaner with a fancy van and fancy prices. Strangely he always seems to appear when it’s raining .

You dont want it too rich for summer bedding, otherwise you get lots of leaf and not so much flowers. IMO, better to go with ordinary compost, either soil based or multipurpose and liquid feed with high potash once the plants start flowering, a few weeks after planting up the containers.
