Was prob a long term thing maybe 5yrs or just keep at it , i know with most plants crosses are never stable but i was thinking over the years once i get something i like and only planting them...

Aaah ..... you've caught me out It took all but the last 18" of that branch. It might have taken it but I sawed it off anyway to avoid jamming the machine.

If you did decide to remove your grass areas @machtucker, Hakonechloa makes good ground cover. I have it planted under an Acer in my lower garden shown below in summer, autumn and winter.
