I think most gardeners are happy to give away their excesses- edible or otherwise but swapping for "heavy" work is not always possible as it will depend on the age/strength/capability of your neighbours/friends. At some point, cash payment is necessary.

I thought the same when we first moved here and several clumps pf bluebells appeared the first spring. After 10 years or so they had spread all over, into the bases of shrubs etc. I've been digging out as many as I can and slicing off the rest every year since.

The second picture is a cotoneaster, probably cotoneaster horizontalis. It looks fine and will burst into leaf soon. The first a mophead hydrangea and it's likely to be fine. The mop head part is important if you want flowers this year because they flower on the previous seasons growth....
