No, I don’t keep the old ones, removing them gives the new ones more space to unfurl and I prefer their fresher green. This is a sure symptom of gardening OCD . In nature they just do their own thing (but look tatty ).

Ah ha! Often gold refers to yellow leaves, but I could see that one has lovely greenery. (I am not a fan of yellow foliage in general.) The name referring to the stamens makes more sense than the fruit, as you get the gold and crimson together!
