There is normally a little o-ring of rubber near the end that clicks in. I think they get dirty or perish, so I have changed them before now to stop the sudden separation. I have a big box of different o-ring and washer sizes, which is useful also for water butt taps that sometimes leak around...

I sowed mine in August - a tip from a local (Suffolk) expert, whose sweet peas were already flowering profusely in May! By autumn they were already sturdy little plants which spent the entire winter outside. Now they’re growing away nicely & I hope to enjoy the same early flowering.

There are plants that will grow in gravel or pure sand, but it depends on what is underneath the gravel in terms of soil. In Essex there is the Beth Chatto gravel garden on free draining soil and in Leeds there is a good sized sand bed, near the entrance, in York Gardens. A visit to either might...

I used SBK stump killer on mine last winter, no sign of any regrowth so far this year.I think you should only use it in winter though.

@LilyTL, yes, you can re-use the compost from the pots but you should remove any roots first. The removed compost would benefit from some granular fertiliser being mixed with it and/or some bagged manure to beef it up before re-using either in pots or in the garden.

Your clay soil may result in your Sorbaria snd Geranium becoming invasive @latimer, as @Costas and @Perki have mentioned above. Perhaps worth waiting a few weeks to see how they develop. I have lots of gaps in my plantings at the moment, done intentionally to give more space to individual plants...

How big is the Camellia? Could you use some bamboo canes and chicken wire to create a protective cylinder or cone?

Crop rotation is always best but I think sometimes it's not always possible, not for me anyway as the amount of available space is limited.I agree you could get a build up of disease, it's the risk you take.

Over 30 plants gone in over the past couple months. Here's some updated pictures.Still yet to tackle the patio area.Have put in a lot of evergreens. 2 holly, 5 euonymus, 1 bamboo, 6 red robins, 2 pieris, 3 yew, and a few others I can't remember.
