You could go for yucca filamentosa or flaccida, they come with variegated varieties usually just a yellow stripe but they are probably hardier than some of the phormiums. I only suggest those two as they are spineless.

Don't forget to water them in and they will need watering over the summer.

@pete I agree, but when concerted attempt were made within living memory to wipe your religion off the face of the Earth, are you going to give anybody a second chance? There is certainly the irony that the powers that be in Israel seem to trying to do precisely that to the Palestinians.

It didn't strike me that way at all. Just someone asking for advice, concerned about doing the wrong thing for their plants. In my book that is being sensitive to a plant's needs.

Queen of the Night seems to be the consensus here. I've got a few red ones that keep coming back year after year but honestly couldn't tell you what variety they are anymore, the labels vanished ages ago. The red ones always seem the most stubborn about returning which suits me fine.
