You could go for yucca filamentosa or flaccida, they come with variegated varieties usually just a yellow stripe but they are probably hardier than some of the phormiums. I only suggest those two...

Am i understanding this correctly ?
It didn't strike me that way at all. Just someone asking for advice, concerned about doing the wrong thing for their plants. In my book that is being sensitive to a plant's needs.

Removing Ivy from Fence and ground
