With a lot of people shouting about more drilling in the depleted North Sea, why is nobody mentioning fracking on land or digging new coal mines? Could it be that their electorate might not like the idea?

I think I'll just do my usual and mix jacks magic with ji no3 and sharp sand.It works ok but was hoping for a cheaper option.I bought a bag or two of some unknown stuff a couple of years ago and nothing grew in it, god knows what it was contaminated with.

After chopping out a 40yr old pyracantha last summer I'd never entertain the stuff, it was in a neighbours garden. Diabolical stuff.

I don't have Queen of the Night, but I do have some Epiphyllum. Plants often look the worse for wear.

My olive has been happy in its pot for almost 30 years. I used the same compost mix as you describe in your first post. I used a load of stones/pebbles I gathered from my garden to cover the bottom of the pot by 2-3" then added another 2" of grit, then the compost on top of that.I often forget...

Actually I think @Selleri is right, it looks more caterpillar because they've avoided the leaf ribs. I didn't think there would be any around yet. But probably garden centre plants are kept in warmer conditions

From the new picture I agree that the stems and bud do look like an ash. Looking at the old picture again where I thought it had lobed leaves, I believe that might be your neighbours tree. I took the green to be one tree and not two and I could only see leaf detail on one half.

Happens every year with our Magpies, even our Blackbird has tried pulling Trachy fibres off. It does no harm to the plant to the plant all.

That looks very similar to the one my brother has. We had colder than -5c here this year and it suggests burgandy spires can only take a lite frost, so perhaps similar cultivars are the same.
