Sal73: 1: Hmm, not sure. Thanks a lot, though. I saw the plant you are mentioning in the same neighborhood. But on THIS plant, I didn't see any of these red blossoms, just those metallic blue seed pods. I need more suggestions from everyone. Grannie Annie: 2.: Good try, and probably quite close, maybe even a hit. HOWEVER, the blossoms of "my" plant are not purple as described in Wikipedia for the Salmonberry, but they are creamy yellow (see photo). Maybe a new local variety? Not sure. Here, too, I need more suggestions from everyone. Thanks.
Sheal: 2: Thanks. But also maybe a No. Because the Golden Raspberry is simply not of that strong orange as the ones I saw. The quest goes on.
Grannie Annie: 2: Thanks, and yes, colors are a match. But "your" plant seems to be merely more than a ground cover, relatively low. What I saw, was a real bush. If the Rubus rolfei can grow up to bush size, I would go for it. Can it? Any evidence known?
Another could be - Rubus parviflorus (thimbleberries) - white-flowered raspberry with thimble-shaped orange berries - thimbleberries also grow wild in Jamacia.
Granny Annie: 2: Thanks again, wow. But because of blossom and fruit color, Rubus Rolfei is stil my favorite. Just the height is different, as it is a bush of 2 meters.
Sven greetings.... again! I grow Rubus Rolfei. It has also been known under a few other names in past years. The common name is creeping raspberry. It does not grow tall. Ground hugging, prostrate, invasive... blinking pest... had to rip it all up before it took over! The leaves are very distinctive.... 5 lobed, very puckered looking, dark green on top. It does not match the leaves shown in your pic.
