It sounds like you're as indifferent about that one as I was?

They're hardier than you might think. By their second year they should be pretty much as hardy as they will get so first winter calls for some protection. As I found out last year they're far less tolerant of drought.

This Canna noid came from Poundland (I grow it at work away from my other Canna just in case of virus although it looks surprisingly virus free so far)...............

I know longk, Embers Wish has never exactly gripped me but I don’t want to get rid of it.

I like the Solanum. Is that a hardy one?

 

I'm a bit half and half on this as some have a shorter stem between trusses and others 18". Last year I went at it as lots of the lower leaves were affected by the long hot spell, so different to now.
So happy I've got the bush toms and the Britains Breakfast has come out of the traps and in the last fortnight gone from none to egg sized fruit, so far about twenty and lots of small ones.
Raining again.

 

A few years back when late blight struck I immediately removed all the foliage from my tomatoes prob in August time. Plants were laden with fruit but they remained untouched by blight....clean and delicious.

Since then I have realised if I have a heavy crop formed and ripening I can indeed remove quite a lot of foliage. Fruit is kept clean, airy and ripens much more quickly.

The only thing to add is for folks to try it. Experiment. Compare. See if it works for you. It means no more unripened fruit....chutney has never appealed to me, preferring the fresh fruit instead.
