Good point, our electric consumption has remained the same about 6,000 kWh a year, the solar panels contribute about half of that. So we import 50% less from the grid. Agree with @Michael Hewett that it looks like a root problem. Vine weevil would probably have been very visible when you took it out but there are other, small root pests that could be the case. Root mealybugs and such.It might be worth taking it out from the pot again and inspect the roots...
