Rose Gauntlet
Bit late, but we use these low cost welders gloves which protect against Pyracantha, Berberis and Rose thorns etc. A bit firm to start with but soon become suppler.

I personally don't believe they have a long term future in containers, but agree planting in that position isn't a good idea. I think some trellis on the wall with a suitable climbing plant...
