Bonemeal/Growmore/Chicken Pellets
If you have top dressed with manure I don't think I'd be bothering with any fertiliser for a while. They should be push through if it's not too thick and claggy.

Rose Gauntlet
I (female though with medium hands) got Wilko gauntlets which were excellent against thorns and not too big. Range have taken over the Wilko brand, so might stock them
