It’s stayed almost dry almost all day so far, plus I needed my sunglasses driving home! So lovely to have a bit of a break from the dismal.

Improving drainage help
Bit late for this year but if you have really claggy clay soil I'd try winter green manure, something like grazing rye, it works if you dig it in when the clay is drying slightly, wait too long...

I think you end up with stronger plants by overwintering, maybe just my thinking, long time since I've grown them. Tbh.Fox gloves and wallflowers are a bit tougher IMO.
