You can get spares from places like B&Q or Amazon.co.uk : hozelock o rings for example. They certainly do perish and also wear if the item is frequently fitted and removed.

I used SBK stump killer on mine last winter, no sign of any regrowth so far this year.I think you should only use it in winter though.

@LilyTL, yes, you can re-use the compost from the pots but you should remove any roots first. The removed compost would benefit from some granular fertiliser being mixed with it and/or some bagged...
