It didn't strike me that way at all. Just someone asking for advice, concerned about doing the wrong thing for their plants. In my book that is being sensitive to a plant's needs.

@pete I agree, but when concerted attempt were made within living memory to wipe your religion off the face of the Earth, are you going to give anybody a second chance? There is certainly the irony that the powers that be in Israel seem to trying to do precisely that to the Palestinians.

Don't worry @potted - I won't tell you how many mistakes I've made - but the pile of labels from plants I no longer have would give you the idea! You just have to pot up what you've bought in good sized pots (or the hanging baskets for the begonia and petunia) and look after them. The wisteria...

Phormiums can suffer in cold, wet winters, especially if you have clay soil. I thought of Yucca as an alternative too. They have an upright, less arching habit so might suit you better.

Over many years I've bought from CPA Horticulture - mushroom compost & horse manure every year and I've had bulk composted bark chippings and 25T top soil. All of it has been of very good quality. Even substantial amounts of manure or compost are available in 75 litre bags which makes life...

It survives around here is all I can say, dont have it myself but have seen it in gardens.

Don't forget to water them in and they will need watering over the summer.
