Magpie attack! Magpies pulling strands from trees
Happens every year with our Magpies, even our Blackbird has tried pulling Trachy fibres off. It does no harm to the plant to the plant all.

That looks very similar to the one my brother has. We had colder than -5c here this year and it suggests burgandy spires can only take a lite frost, so perhaps similar cultivars are the same.

We were 19.8c for a few hours today but with the sharp breeze from the Northeast. I didn't tarry long potting up the Geraniums. Still sunny and 19.2c and still with the breeze.
