I also think an active/engaged brain gives you a boost. If we sit sedentary watching the telly then we feel more tired than if we have things going on, getting us to think.

I like the moat method for seedlings I sow in the greenhouse and it works well (I put the legs of the stand in water so I have more room) but you do get intrepid slugs that scale the greenhouse...

Rat problem

I've only ever used it myself as a soil improvement. You can usually only get it in bulk, not really looked to see if you can get it in bags.
