Silene growing in a tuffeau rock face sourced from the Loire valley.

My moss phlox has not flowered great the last two years despite trimming back after flowering and growing in a very sunny position. The plant is about 5 years old. Should I just take cuttings for next year and start from scratch ?

Thyme wants some soil I think. Mine is fully in soil.

I hope you bring it regular refreshments while it's sat there lounging around. I'd expect it to be pulling up a few weeds or at least scaring the birds and cats away.

Hmm ok I might try and rescue the one that is clinging on then. They seem to have a good selection and shows what can be grown here

@groundbeetle if your garden is so sheltered that the bacopa is still flowering, then why not just get all the different cyclamen that flower through the year? I have cyclamen Mirabile Tilebarn Nicholas/Anne/Grevillea in my cold greenhouse, and the foliage is so interesting that I don't mind if...

Thanks I am in the east Midlands UK. The trough is south facing and in very gritty compost and trough has drainage holes too . I wondered about slug/ snail damage but nothing else in trough affected. I intend to put in small frame over winter. Do you believe foliage will regenerate or not?

How about getting one of those wands that roast the weeds with a flame? Never tried one myself but it should work on gravel.

I have always done it when they first appear above soil in late Spring. At least then you can find the resting buds from which they grow.

I agree about Lewisias, they are usually planted in a wall so that rain doesn't collect in the rosette. You could try a feed, but I would only do it once. Maybe there isn't enough soil for the Sedum sieboldii (that's the first one)
