How much do you feed your cats per day? What times and how much?

I weigh out kibbles in the morning/judge by eye now, according to pack per cat weight and minus some as they have a wet food pouch for lunch (with extra water). They have most of the kibbles for breakfast - usually in 2 sittings: 5am (!) and then whenever someone gets up next. They have a wet food pouch at midday/once a day if we not in then (one shared between 2). I don’t tend to leave kibbles out as one is greedy. They have a few kibbles (usually when I’m cooking etc as they ‘indicate’ they fancy a snack) in the evening then, and a couple if treats before bed - thus taking them over their allotted allowance. They are slightly overweight tbh.

The vet recommended kibbles only weighed out and given once or twice a day. Yea right.

@AuntyRach Sounds like you are talking about our two. Ours get kibbles for brekkies, a flat pack for lunch, a flat pack or pouch for dinner and kibbles for a late-night snack (which he always has, she may not).

It's an all day buffet here. Croquettes always available, with fresh water. They don't abuse them. In theory, a sachet of wet food each twice a day. If they get peckish, they pop over to the field next door for a squeaky snack. Nelson is tubby, it's true, but Rosie isn't overweight.

Florry and Bertie just get a wet pouch each in the morning and evening and then very few biscuits in between, just enough to cover the floor of their bowl, really. Often they'll get a small tin of mousse/pate instead of the pouch. I sometimes adjust for the seasons and feed them less in the colder months as I don't see why they need to eat as much when hardly active. It's less than what's typically recommended on the packs but they would suggest we feed them more, wouldn't they?

None of my cats end up slightly overweight in their mature years like they sometimes used to and seem very happy, that's my main concern. :)

I love that. Neither of ours go for that fortunately. They bring an occasional gecko i but it is always rescued and returned to the outdoors.

Oh yes, the wall lizards! Rosie's a terror for catching them. Mostly we get to them to save them, but she still does occasionally eat one. Rather worrying, as they're reputed to be bad for cats. Will she listen? :nonofinger:

Misty has a measured amount of dry GoCat 3 times a day, it's whatever the packet says for her weight. Then a wet pouch of Whiskas for supper. Over-winter she would over eat if we didn't regulate her. She puts on about half a Kg over winter although she doesn't look fat. Now it's better weather she is outside more and has lost that extra weight and often skips a meal.

I feed my 2 gingers 1 packet of wet cat food in the morning, some cat biscuits in the afternoon and half a packet of wet cat food in the evening.

They still swap bowls midway through their dinners though even though they get the same. :th scifD36:

When Oscar was with us he had a few biscuits early in the morning in his bowl in the greenhouse (he lived there) and one sachet of wet food a day in a bowl outside.

When he was peckish he hunted in the fields for, mainly, squirrels and rats. If not too peckish he kept the field mice out of the garden.

Birds were perfectly safe in the garden as his moto was 'two legs good four legs bad' and even baby birds were safe in the garden. The baby pheasants used to play with him :).

He was a naturally big cat (20lb) but not at all fat.

Bella gets food as and when she wants it. She would refuse to eat it if I gave it to her at any other time, and when she wants it I just give it to her, otherwise I'd get no peace ! Her eating times vary from day to day but she tends to eat more during the night.

I only put a bit in her bowl at a time, about half a sachet, and if she wants more she'll tell me.
The vet has told me to give her as much food as she wants because she needs to regain weight after loosing a lot due to an over active thyroid problem. She's regained 1/4 of a kilo so far but has lost a lot more than that.

After having lots of cats over the years I have found it impossible to keep them to timed meals, they want what they want when they want it.
