Lucky, lucky man this evening. Audio deliberately muted due to background music, private conversation and a few choice words.......

WOW! Honestly, what is wrong with people nowadays? Locally almost daily the local news paper reports. Man/woman hit by train. Then on the roads, people just step out. From my sitting room window, I have a panoramic view of the road outside. Please check it out on google maps. SE9 5EZ. People walk up the road and simply take a diagonal route across the road. The have just left a blind bend without looking behind them. Of course most wouldn't hear any traffic due to their ears being plugged up to earphones. Even cyclist ride with earphones plugged in. Ye gods mankind has become seperated from their brains.

He is lucky that I was switched on, and that he hit the side of the car rather than the front. Sadly, as you say, you see it a lot nowadays. In the case of your road, could it be that they assume there will be nothing coming as the road looks relatively quiet?

I also agree that earphones, are the scourge of the roads - as well as smartphones - they isolate people from what is going on around them far too much.

Dash cams are a godsend with todays driving / pedestrians. After two years mine proved its worth with another road users bad driving.

I must get a cam for my van. What would everyone recommend as a good cam?

Ive been pleased with my blackvue

Heres a capture from the software just as the clio pulled across my front (they were in a lane to go straight on)

Top left - rear view (you could see the car coming up my inside before this)
date, time and speed along with GPS co-ordinates. You can switch front to rear in the main screen.

This one doesn't have a screen on the camera but I like that - less distractions. I download the image when I need it.

I'll not load the vid as my better half expressed her displeasure in words you wouldn't use in front of the vicar.

            crash.JPG

Edit : I also bought the power supply which hard wires the cam to the battery and will power off when the battery reaches a pre-set voltage (you can change this). This also means that the camera records any accidents when the car is parked up

And its like most things … people will tend to recommend the item that they bought.

My criteria was front and rear camera, hard wired and discrete. I got some good advice from carcamerashop.co.uk but unfortunately they didn't have the kit in stock and no eta so I ended up using amazon. It didn't feel good as I like to support people who offer advice and add value.

Good job it was you driving FC otherwise it would have been a terrible accident.

Equally I've noticed some car drivers detached from the outside wearing headphones or having an animated conversation on their phone driving along.

I just checked out the 900s which looks good and using my Wi-Fi at home I can use it as a stand alone security camera setup in my van which is handy.
The other way was using a GoPro 7 which I could use in and out of the van. It’s not automated like a dash cam but I’m thinking about it.

The more I look the more options pop up. I’ve decided not to go for the GoPro, it might not like the heat in the van and I want something that just starts and stops and has the ability to capture an accident if it ever happens which dash cams do very well.
Nextbase look good too and Garmin do a 66w so it’s a case of picking one that suits me.

I’m thinking the scandisk extreme pro would be fine but what size would you say is a good all rounder ?
