I'm looking for an evergreen climber to cover the newly installed front gate arch.

The arch is mainly in shade and it can get a tad breezy around there. I've had some success with honeysuckle in other parts of the garden, but am not sure how they would take a shady position - and I fancy something different.

Any one recommend an evergreen climber for this position? Not bothered about flowers or fragrance but would like something quick growing with attractive foliage - if such a thing exists.

It will be planted under gravel in fairly clayey soil.

    Thanks

Lonicera Henryi. It's a very fast growing twining evergreen, flowers nicely and attracts bees. Morrison's often have small plants for a £ or two and a small start will cover an arch in two summers. It will twine it's own way up and doesn't really need pruning. It has a tendency to get bare at the bottom though.

This one has covered my 180cm tall bird feeder in two years, starting with some cuttings.

Euonymus fortunei Silver Queen is a good climber and it is evergreen. I have one over 6 ft tall on a fence. It does flower but they're rather insignificant, see photo.

My Honeysuckle Copper Beauty grows in the shade and in clay soil.
