Replies

Hi, is there a straightforward way to see replies to messages? Finding it hard to locate messages on this forum. Also, it doesn’t seem to be as responsive as the gardeners world forum I was in before it closed. I would get so much help there. Here I seem to get one or two replies and that’s it sadly. Am I doing something wrong? Finding this site harder to navigate and less responsive than previous one. ☹️

 

I’m new to this forum myself and am no computer geek, so I can’t really answer your questions very well.

Firstly, this seems to be quite a small forum and it’s run by volunteers. GW had paid professionals running it and I’m pretty sure its membership was huge. A smaller membership means a smaller fount of knowledge. I, for example, know nothing about Daphnes so I couldn’t help you there.

Secondly, learning how to navigate round any new website or whatever takes time. If you want to see not very old replies and so on you can use “Spy” at the top of the screen. Or if you know who replied you can find their name and avatar, click on that. It will take you to a black box where you will see “Postings”. Click on that and you will see all that person’s contributions to the forum.

Would the 'new posts' tab be useful to you? I have GC set to open by default on that page, so only recent, active posts appear in list form. Agree it can be a bit daunting navigating round the various sub headings!
Not wishing to be rude, honestly, but don't forget that sometimes the answers you receive won't necessarily be what you want to hear That doesn't mean that they're not good answers!

Oh it’s nothing to do with not being the answers I want haha! I’m not that way inclined. Just from my experience years back on another forum - I used to be inundated with replies which was so helpful. Unless it was Covid and more people were around I do appreciate your help as I know you have responded - thank you :-)

When you log on, if you look at the top right of your page, by your name, a red symbol will appear with the number of replies to threads you are interested in or created. If you click there and click on alerts they will be listed. That's how I keep track. But that's for public replies that everyone can read.

 

Must admit if I go onto a post and the first or second answer is pretty much what I would have said I rarely repeat what others have said.
Often people just hit agree, so if the first post after yours answers the question it may well have half a dozen agrees, it doesn't mean people are not seeing your post, it just means they have no more to add.
If you click on where it says,,list, it will give the names of those that have seen you post and agree with the answer.

 

I've been on some forums and you get about 3 new posts a week.
All forums are different.

 

LizStar did leave some words, @JWK. These just got mixed in with yours. Easily done.

 

A really quick way is to click on your name top right.
Then click on, your content, in the box that opens up.
