Those look great Nigel, can't believe yours are flowering so well at this time of year. You say it is very mild with you, so no frosts so far?

          SALVIA nemorosa "Caradonna"
Fell inlove with this at Kensington Gardens and bought a strong, healthy specimen which grew well last season. Cut it back in December and watched oodles of new growth appear in February. I took 2 heel cuttings and stuck them in water a plastic pot for a few weeks. They rooted and I potted them up today. Bees fall over them selves to get nectar from this Balkan Clary Sage.

Looking forward to having 2 extra plants in a couple of months.

I guess you know already Jenny, but you can divide Caradonna too. Do mine every 3 years or so :)

@longk Mine has barely stopped growing all winter, the recent cooler spell has caused some of the younger shoots to be yellower. S corrugata came through the winter in an open bed and is growing away; it did get some of its shoots blackened by a couple of sharp frosts, but has remained in leaf all the time.

Both these are beautiful colours, will they grow from seed ?
.I've seen the salvia in seed catalogues. Been undecided wether to buy seed or buy the plant .

@Purple Streaks I do some of each named varieties I buy the plants for example the Salvia microphylla "Cerro Potosi". Others such as S coccinea, S darcyi and S atrocyanea I grow from seed. Like other people I also take cuttings to overwinter tender species.
