Good afternoon Nynhydrin there are some circles in the Rose world that would say no IMHO I I would say yes at the very least it would prevent any water splashing back up on to the canes and help...

What a great job you have done Woo! If I remember, at the time you were worried you might have been a little to hard on them, they've certainly done you justice with their return to form. Wonderful!

Rose for an awkward spot please
I do think white would brighten that bit up, will go for that one thanks. I know it's a very pathetic wee patio but most of the garden is grass and easier for the hubby to keep as he's not well....
