Definitely, I take dozens of different cuttings throughout a year and sow hundreds of seeds, you just can't beat it , especially when like with the rose its supposed to difficult to root roses from cut flowers as they're not fresh, especially when they've been in a vase for a week too...

I've been quite happy with my first attempt at growing roses BUT, though I have some nice blooms, an awful lot have been lost to the non stop rain. You can wring the water out of the flowers ! gazania

I wouldn't recommend it for the scent as you can only smell it if you stick your nose in it (unlike a white rambler/climber down in the centre of the village which you can smell from across the street, I'm trying to find out what that one is too, so I can get one for us!) and it's growing in...

I think everybody's happy you're back, Woo, they been missing out on advice about roses from a person who's advice they trust.

I see the link goes on about good preparation. Are roses acid lovers and can they be dosed with coffee grinds, the same as Azaleas and rhoddies?

What about taking a hardwood cutting and starting the Plant over again? Some on here are experienced in such things and are more likely than me to give decent advice - WOO Help please, if poss.

As far as fragrant roses go, Hans' post has reminded me that nothing much beats Mme Isaac Pereire's powerful scent. She's large, brash, blowsy and delicious.
