I did. The tree surgeon could not see any obvious explanation, even when he ground down to the roots. But it was definitely an ex-tree.

No sign of cherry blackfly under any leaves. Just curled, very dry/ brittle leaves. Not sure whether it needs more water or less?!

Sorry folks.... but I am not sure that the leaf shape is right for Hazel...Corylus avellana.Franco50 Please could you add a clear pic to show a leaf close up.

It may also be trying to grow away from the fence towards the light in addition to previous posts.

Thanks very much, the trees have indeed managed to create their own damp, shaded area (which is also partly "helped" by a hedge on one side). I'll get to work pruning them as you suggest in July/August.

I have 2 olive trees both in pots planted at the same time, 1 is doing great but the other as hardly any leaves on it, they are on our deck south westerly facing so do get a lot of sun. Any ideas ???

I agree with this; I've never had success with trying to grow Rowan on my clay.

It looks OK, OxfordNick. It's a proper standard with a clear stem. You could take out the leader above the first whorl of branches, and shorten the longer branches, but do it in the summer during a good long spell of dry weather.

It produced 2 apples last year :-(If nothing else should I pick off the affected leaves?

Over potting anything is not good. Putting small plants in large pots is a recipe for disaster. Far better to pot on as plants grow so I agree with dinp here Protection from the strongest sun and winds is vital........taller plants on the exposed sides will enable acers to grow so much better....
